Space Shuttle Atlantis on mission STS-129 returns from the International Space Station for a 9:44 a.m. landing at Kennedy Space Center on 27 November 2009. Atlantis launched with six astronauts but is returning with seven; bringing space station flight engineer Nicole Stott back to Earth after three months aboard the ISS. This is the last planned ISS crew rotation planned for the shuttle program’s remaining five flights. U.S. ISS crew members will now fly on Russian Soyuz spacecraft to and from the station for the foreseeable future. The images show, at top left, Atlantis in a steep bank as it turns to line up with the runway. The remaining images show Atlantis on final approach almost as a silhouette with the Sun on the other side of it. The actual landing was obscured by trees.
