SES-8 (Falcon 9)
3 December 2013 - Cape Canaveral Air Force Station - SLC 40
SpaceX (Space Exploration Technologies Corp.) launched its upgraded Falcon 9 rocket on its inaugural flight from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station carrying the SES-8 commercial communications satellite into orbit at 5:41 p.m. on 3 December 2013 from Space Launch Complex 40.  The satellite will provide broadcast coverage for South Asia and Indo-China from geostationary orbit for Luxembourg-based SES.  This is SpaceX’s first try at putting a satellite into geostationary orbit, which it successfully did on the third launch attempt after two launch attempts were scrubbed by technical problems.
Video, stills, and time-lapse photography highlight the launch video for SES-8.
