At left is what I call the "discovery image." Observing an Osprey in the far distance on 11 February 2006 I assumed it was feeding on a fish because it was not leaving its perch. Initially, I did not realize the mass of sticks visible to the lower left of the bird was the beginnings of the nest. I took my time getting closer since I expected the Osprey would fly off long before I got there but what was really going on became evident as I approached. In fact, within minutes of finding a good spot to observe the bird as unobtrusively as possible the male showed up and the two proceeded to mate in the nest.
