The space shuttle Endeavour (STS-123) on a mission to the International Space Station lifted off from Kennedy Space Center at 2:28 a.m. on 11 March 2008. Endeavour is carrying seven astronauts along with part of the massive Japanese science laboratory named “Kibo” to be ferried up in sections to the station for assembly. Also on board is “Dextre”, the special purpose dexterous manipulator to be added to the Canadian robot arm already attached to the station. In the attempted time exposure, the view of the launch from Patrick Air Force Base was only visible for a few moments before Endeavour disappeared into the low hanging clouds. Note all the spectators on the beach awash in the glow of their own camera equipment.
