A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket delivered EchoStar XXIII, a commercial communications satellite for EchoStar Corporation, to a Geostationary Transfer Orbit (GTO) for eventual placement in a geosynchronous orbit. EchoStar is a global provider of satellite and video delivery services. The primary mission for EchoStar XXIII will be to provide satellite television broadcast service to Brazil.

The SpaceX EchoStar XXIII mission launched on 16 March 2017 at 2:00 a.m. from Launch Complex-39A at Kennedy Space Center. SpaceX did not attempt to land Falcon 9’s first stage after launch due to mission requirements.

A time exposure of the launch through first stage main engine shutdown taken at Sebastian Inlet State Park.
Another time exposure shows the second stage continuing on in an arc that bends down over the horizon on its way to orbit.
