Observations & Images
16 October 2010
Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge

High wind and a bit of a chill in the air for the Pelican Island Audubon Society field trip to Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge did not produce many birds or photographs but was enjoyable none the less. One of the more interesting encounters was with this elusive female Rose-breasted Grosbeak who kept to herself up in the thick of a tree.
Fast action caught the brief appearance of this Gray Catbird as it alighted for just a few seconds on this branch before disappearing back into the brush.
A Pine Warbler came right up to our feet pursuing what appeared to be little moths in the grass.
One of the many Ospreys in the mosquito impoundment encircled by the Joe Michael Trail passes by with a fish in its talons.
